The Laundress hosted a Zoom meeting with singer John Mayer yesterday to unveil Way Out West Signature Detergent, the latest collaboration between the two.
 
The new all-purpose formula is designed to brighten, preserve color and remove stains from everyday laundry, according to The Laundress, which has been part of Unilever since 2019. 

The concentrated detergent’s scent features accords of amyris, black pepper and neroli surrounded by warm, woody notes of cedar, sandalwood and musk.  
 
The detergent is housed in a 100% PCR bottle.
 
According to Mayer, if you’re into fashion, you should be into fabric care, too. During the Zoom event, he discussed his love of fabrics (Sea Island cotton, for example, is a favorite). He discussed (and even did a quick demo of) how he handwashes his favorite t-shirts in the sink.
 
In addition to Way Out West detergent, The Laundress also unveiled Way Out West Fabric Fresh, a spray refresher product.



Mayer told editors that the fabric spray can be a great way to carry one's home scent when on the road—something he knows well from concert tours.
 
Way Out West is the second collaboration between the Grammy Award winner and the brand. They joined forces in 2016 on a detergent and spray that benefitted the Montana Association of Land Trusts (MALT). Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales of the products—which were scented with a fragrance called Out West—were earmarked to go directly to MALT and its conservation efforts.
 
According to The Laundress Co-Founder Lindsey Boyd, the collaboration lead to a $100,000 donation to MALT.  
 
With the Way Out West launch, The Laundress is making a donation to the Heart and Armor Foundation, which Mayer founded in 2019. Heart and Armor is focused on improving the health of veterans.
